Hey! We're going to Ibiza
Mallorca with visitors, a crossing to Formentera and Ibiza town
Mallorca — Formentera – Ibiza
The marina in the bay of Palma de Mallorca is fully booked and unfortunately we cannot enter the smaller marinas because Mirabella has too much draft. This means that Andrea’s sister Michaela and her family will not spend the night in a port during their 10 days vacation on Mirabella.
We welcome the four of them in the dinghy in the harbor and after shopping and ice cream we go on a lively wave ride directly to Mirabella, anchored off Palma de Mallorca. According to the forecast there should be no wind, but the afternoon breeze in the Bay of Palma rocks Mirabella quite a bit, making it a challenging reception for visitors with no sailing experience. The four of them are holding up quite well and so the next morning we motor out of the bay towards ‘Es Trenc’ where the beautiful beach is a safe bet and allows us to forget the rocking from the previous day.
The crossing to Cabrera the next day is relaxed and a good way to get into it. The children practice knots, move safely on deck and we quickly see the pirate lookout, tie up to the buoy and explore the surroundings on land. The next day, Silvio and Andrea go on a hike to the lighthouse for a few hours, which allows them to take a breather and discuss a few things.
Silvio and Martin install a freediving line on Mirabella’s spinnaker pole and explore the 24 meters below the surface.
The next day they dive on the northwest coast of Cabrera, where they moor the dinghy to a diving buoy. This is until they are warned by the nature park authorities, sent away and even escorted back to Mirabella. Diving with a tank accompanied by a guide is allowed — but free diving is forbidden, aha.
After visiting Cabrera, we anchor in front of ‘Sa Ràpita’, go eat out and set off at 2 a.m. towards Formentera. The crossing with aft wind and waves from behind is a bit of a challenge for our guest. By distributing tasks and keeping everyone busy, things get better and better. Soon everyone is in a great mood while eating chocolate in front of Formentera with a smile on their faces and a short trip to the beach just before sunset lets everyone forget about the waves. Here we lie for three days west of the beautiful beach ‘Platja de Llevant’ and enjoy the sun and warmth. Michaela and Andrea hold their business meeting in a café in ‘La Savina’ in the port of Formentera and enjoy a change from the beach. Silvio sets off kiting accompanied by Martin.
Our guests take the ferry back to Mallorca from Ibiza. We wanted to at least go to the marina for one last overnight stay, but we decided not to because the ports were fully booked and prices exceeded 500 euros per night.
Thus, we anchor in front of Ibiza town and say goodbye to them after an Indian dinner and with tears in our eyes. We know that it will be a long time before we see each other again.
